Green Lantern Costume

When my son, Dexter, was almost two, he wanted to be Green Lantern for Halloween. I bought him Green Lantern pajamas from Amazon, but I couldn't find the mask I wanted or a ring that would fit him. So, I made my own. For the mask, I took inspiration from Kyle Rayner's version of Green Lantern because that's our favorite. I drew the shape on foam, then cut it out. I glued the two sections together and then painted it. I then stuck it to his face using spirit gum.

I made his green lantern ring out of clay that you bake. Then I super glued it to a ring base that I purchased from Hobby Lobby. I then painted that green to match the top.

Cute!

My 2016 Simple Berries Centerpiece

I wanted to make a simple centerpiece using the leftover berries from my Christmas arrangment last year. So, I bought a vase from the Dollar Tree for $1. Then I used the leftover metallic aquamarine paint from my other centerpiece that I posted earlier. I poured it in the bottom and twirled the vase around until I got the effect I wanted.

After that, I spray painted with Krylon Glitter Blast on the inside upper part.

Then I just added berries!

Zombie Bite From My 30th Birthday-Theme: 80s Zombie!

I said in my last post that I would share how I made the zombie bite on my arm using only flour, water, and paint. It was for my 80s Zombie theme birthday party, but since Halloween is coming up, I thought I would share. I didn't have fake blood on hand, but it would have made it even better if I had. And I didn't have the materials that would normally be used for something like this. Therefore, I improvised, and tested this out. I didn't have body paint either, so I used acrylic. It does start to crack as it dries and as you move, but it did hold up for about two hours before I washed it off. It did wash off fairly easy, which was great. It was also inexpensive, which is the best part.

I mixed together flour and water until it got to a good spreadable consistency. Then I molded it into a bite like form, making sure to spread it out on my arm so it would blend on the edges. I let that dry.

I painted around the bite with yellow and light green to make it look like the disease is spreading. Make sure to paint this part large enough to be seen when more painting is done later.

Then I went in with a paint brush and a dark red to get the shadows. Make sure to get in all the crevices. Once that was dry, I used the same paint brush over the top where I thought highlights would be with a bright red.

I went around the bite with more of the darker red paint and a sponge this time to make it seem bruised and splattered. Then I painted veins lightly with blue and pink using a tiny paint brush.

Here is where I would have added the blood, but I still think it turned out good considering what I used. You can see some small cracking, but it's not bad.

Food & Drinks From My 30th Birthday-Theme: 80s Zombie!

Last year, I celebrated my 30th birthday. I like the 80s and I love zombies, so I decided to combine the two, just for fun. It was a great time. I will post more pictures of it later. I even designed and made a zombie apocalypse Clue style board game. However, since it's almost Halloween and people will be having parties, I wanted to share some of the simple, yet fun food & drinks I had at the party. In my next post, I will share how I made a zombie bite on my arm for my party using flour, water, and paint.

This was so cute! The bowl has veggie dip. The rest was just cutting up vegetables and placing them where it worked. And the hair is a piece of lettuce.

I made a 7-layer dip. Re-fried beans, guacamole, salsa, sour cream, shredded cheese, tomatoes, and black olives. Then I added a little plastic ice cream spoon, from the Dollar Tree. The little plastic cups also came from the Dollar Tree.

I found this plastic jello mold in the shape of a brain at the dollar tree. Perfect! Brrrraaaaiiiinnnnsss!

Of course we had to have Zombie Bacardi. It was a zombie party after all. ;) On Amazon, I found brain shaped ice cubes. It was the perfect touch for the drinks! That's what is in the big bowl near the front. We also had strawberry daiquiris. Yum! Then I had fruit for garnish. And sugar rims!

Mummy Door Decoration For Halloween

This was something I want to do with my 6-year-old and 4-year-old this year. I got large googly eyes, plastic white table cloth, and black poster board from the Dollar Tree. I cut the plastic table cloth into strips and we taped them on. It was fun, and it turned out super cute!

Halloween Snake Wreath

I made this wreath in 2012. This was my interpretation of a snake wreath I saw online. It turned out darker than I intended, which makes it hard to see all the snakes, but it was still very cool and different than the usual wreaths I see. I bought a bag of plastic snakes from the Dollar tree and the grapevine wreath from Hobby Lobby. I had a few large rubber snakes, so I incorporated those in with the small snakes. I sprayed all the snakes black before adding them to the wreath. Then I sprayed everything black. I wish I had left the wreath just the dark brown, but it still turned out good.

The Little Mermaid Pumpkin Carving

I carved this pumpkin in 2011. It was all done free-hand. I've loved The Little Mermaid since I first saw the movie in 1988. My daughter loves it, too!

My 2016 Lighted Christmas Sign

I bought a wooden plaque on clearance for $2 at Hobby Lobby. I painted the surface with metallic aquamarine paint. I then sprayed it with Krylon Glitter Blast spray paint. I printed out the font and used spray adhesive to glue it on.

I took a battery operated tiny lights pack and hot glued it on the back.

Then I took the lights and hot glued it around the plaque.

 Viola!

My 2016 Christmas Couch Pillow Covers

I sewed the red and blue pillow case covers.

The other two covers, I bought from Hobby Lobby.

It all goes with my theme of red, white, and turquoise that I used for last year's Christmas.

My 2016 Dining Room Table Christmas Centerpiece

I cut and painted foam to look like a slice of wood.

I glued with hot glue, tiny battery operated lights to the branches.

My 2016 Side Table Christmas Centerpiece

I painted the inside top of the glass vase by dripping paint on the inside rim and twirling the glass around until I got the effect I wanted.

Then I added twinkle trim in the bottom to cover any stems that may show from the roses.

I tied the roses together using the twine.
